![]() ![]() Subaru owners are known for being eccentric ya know. Tell em its for extra lights for your bike rack. Going to the dealer may open up the "Thou shalt not pull a trailer with thy Impreza" discussion. If you've made the purchase of this and not opened up the kit see if you can return it for a generic splice-in unit. Etrailer site has now revised it's recommendation and indicates there is no custom fit trailer lighting available. "Custom" trailer lighting that used those sockets does not mate now. Big chunky 6 pole to smaller 4 pole to my eye. Part of this 80%-95% all new business has gone all the way down to the tail light socket connections. ![]() Of some note however, the Tekonsha 118573 trailer lighting kit that fit 2012 and later Imprezas, does not fit 2017 models. It sure was a lot easier than getting through the firewall. I guess the fuse box can take 10 amps without issue. The harness instructions for the Tekonsha 118573 had you go direct to the battery with a wire that looked like it could work for Niagara Falls level power but provided a 10 amp fuse for the line. Used fuse 27 in the box at lower left of the cabin front for the trailer lighting. I saw no easy way to get the lighting harness power wire through the firewall to the battery as described in the instructions. I did do the trailer lighting myself with some much needed assistance from the forum here. I did use a 2002 Mazda Protege 5 for this in the past without issue so I expect no problems as the Impreza is about three or four hundred pounds heavier and has an automatic transmission. ![]() I have not gotten the trailer and boat out of the caverns yet so I cannot report on the actual pulling of the rig. Chickened out on doing the hitch install myself but there was no major complaint from my mechanic. Just make sure to seal up good against the elements.I have the 2017 Premium 5-door model and got a Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch #24886 for puling a small sailboat - maybe 600-750 lb total weight for trailer and boat. If you want to wire yourself it is much easier to splice into the harness just behind the taillight and then run a wire for other turn signal over to that side as well. Little bit cheaper and probably just as good anyway. The more expensive one is for the MPV with ground effects to provide clearance. Both available at for $172 and $76.80.Ĭan also go to for aftermarket U-haul hitches. Wire harness adapter kit is #0000-8E-F06A with MSRP of $96. Class II hitch is OE# 0000-8E-F05 with MSRP of $215. Mazda has a tow package accessory available. If you have the Four Seasons option with the trailer tow accessory the cooler is a little bit bigger and towing capacity is upped to 3000 lbs. First off, all 02 and later MPV should come with a transmission oil cooler. ![]() There are several options that you can explore if looking for a tow hitch for the 05 MPV. Has anyone got any experience with towing that can pass on some hints and tips? I am finding that tow hitches are quite rare and many people tell me the van is too new to list a part number? I would like to wire the van for the electric brake and lights myself but I am unsure what oarts are available and if the van has a clip on the factory loom that is under the driver side dash that will run to the rear of the van? If I need to run all wires and splice them into the loom that would be ok. The 2006 models are listed on Mazda.ca with the cooler but I cannot find the 2005 spec and the manual doesn't specify this. I am pretty sure that my van came with the transmission cooler, mounted bottom side of the radiator between the bumper and radiator but I will need to get this confirmed. I am interested in towing with my 2005 GT model and I am finding out about what I need to get going with a small tent trailer with regards to equipment. Hi All! I am a new member to the Mazda website! ![]()
